So Just What is a resume?
In short a Resume is the story of you in 30 seconds or less!
What makes a good Resume: The 3 C's.......Clean, Clear, Concise
Clean: Your resume needs to be uncluttered. That means a simple basic font (Ariel, Calibri, New Times Roman). Your resume should only be ONE PAGE long, anything more is to much and will not be read.
Clear: Bolding should only be used to highlight key areas/ideas or headings.......NO FANCY SWIRLS OR CURLS, NO PICTURES,
NO COLORS.
NO COLORS.
Concise: You have exactly 30 seconds to tell the reader about you!!
Remember the reader sometimes goes through HUNDREDS of resumes daily.......you need to make yourself STAND OUT!!
Write in BULLET POINTS that emphasize main ideas or your accomplishments--bold as needed.

types of resumes
You mean there is more than one type?
FUN FACT: Resumes all contain the same information, it is just rearranged according to who you are telling your story to. If you are applying for a job, the interviewer will be most interested in your employment history, for college your academics/volunteering and for sports your athletic record.
Work: This resume is going to highlight your work history. If you do not have a work history, you will move your volunteering or internship history up and place the emphasis on that. Remember volunteering/internship tells a perspective employer a lot about you as a person....work ethic, follow through, dedication, being able to work independently (self-starter) and interaction with the public(customer service).
College: This resume is going to highlight your academic history....academic ranking, GPA, leadership, extra curricular activities, awards. You will notice that volunteering, internships and work come below all of the other categories
Athletic: This one looks a lot like the college one, but the emphasis is placed on your sports accomplishments.

templates & examples
Attached are templates of all 3 types of resumes. All you need to do is save the Word Doc (Save As--First Name Last Name)
as your own file and then you can use the example to start filling in the blanks.

REMINDER: You are not only telling your story in 30 seconds or less, you are also creating a brand and that brand is YOU!! That is why your file name needs to be your FIRST/LAST NAME and you need a professional email address with your FIRST/LAST NAME and that is why YOUR NAME is the first item at the top of your resume, bolded and the largest font size.
Professional Email: Create a gmail, hotmail, yahoo, etc., (take your pick) and only ever use this email for work, college, scholarships.......this is an email that you should have for the rest of your life.....keep it clean and professional. You want people you have networked with in the past to have the ability to find you years later....you never know where an opportunity might come from.

FYI: There are TWO different college templates......the only difference is how the material is laid out. The FILLER one is for you to use if you do not have a lot on your resume (you do not want a lot of white space)....once you have more to add, you can go back a rearrange your information in the more traditional format.
